Chaos at Our House

WOW - What a week it's been at our house. It all started Sunday afternoon when we started pulling up the linoleum in our kitchen and half bathroom. The middle part of each room was easy, but the edges were glued down so good that we had to get a scraping tool to go around the outside to get it all up. The shoe molding also had to be removed in those two rooms, but that was much easier to take off. We started having a little system going and it went pretty fast after that. I now have a nice little battle wound from the tool and my knees on the floors are bruised up.

So from Monday-Wednesday we started living in our "distressed" house. Distressed sounds so much better than, our dirty yucky house. If you know me at all, you know that I am a bit on the OCD side of things and living in that mess completely made me anxious. Finally on Wednesday the contractors came and removed carpet and old hardwood and started laying down new hardwood floors. I was able to work from home that day, so that was a huge help. I kept going down to see the progress and you can't really tell what it looks like until it's all finshed. They got to our house at 9am and didn't finish until 8:30pm. They didn't even take a break!!!! Wouldn't want to do their job, they worked hard for 11 1/2 hours. YUCKO.

I was hoping that it would all be done and ready to clean, but we had to have our shoe molding put back in and we had that done yesterday. We also had a new chandelier put in and what a difference that makes. I LOVE IT and I've wanted it for such a long time. I finally just decided to do it.

Sooooooooooo are you wondering if it's all done? NOPE - we still have to patch the nail holes on the molding and paint the baseboards, which shouldn't take but a few hours and that is what we are going to tackle tomorrow. My mom was so kind to offer to clean my house today!!! She's probably there right now. What a huge help that is. I can't wait to get home and have a clean house.

Ohhhhhhhhh and Daniel's parents are coming this weekend, partly why I wanted to get it all done by today. They are going to help us patch the holes and paint as well as put a new sink in our half bath. We'll be well on our way to a new and improved house.

I will post some before and after pictures as soon as its all done. We still have a short list of things to get done in the next couple weeks:

1). Wallpaper Half Bath - I got a great deal from a friend of mine who works at a designer showroom. She set me up with a guy that is going to put it in.

2). Paint Hallway and Laundry room upstairs

3). Replace door knobs on downstairs doors

4). Re-carpet stairs and upstairs

5). Reulpolster a table and pillows

6). New Fabric for Pillows in our bedroom to go along with our new quilt.

DID I MENTION - I LOVE HOUSE PROJECTS?????

What they heck have we been doing? Post 1 - San Francisco

Of course I fall short in updating this blog. A few reasons for that; 1). I don't have kids so not too much changes on a day to day basis, 2). I'm not good about uploading pictures to my computer after I take them, and 3). I don't figure too many people read this so I don't think anyone is missing out on much. However, for those of you that do like to keep up with what we are doing I've got a few updates for you.
March 2010 - San Francisco, California - I was sent out to San Francisco for work for a week for the Enterprise Data World Conference. Fun, I know! It's actually a nice change of pace getting to meet and talk with customers and prospects in one place. After my week of work Daniel joined me and we had a week's vacation. We started off our trip by going to Monterey, California to visit Daniel's cousin and his wife, Bill and Mary Catherine. Bill is in school there right now and they will be moving shortly so it was a great time to visit. We hopped in our BRIGHT RED midsized car and drove the 2.5 hours to see them. Poor Daniel had been traveling all day and was tired b/c of the 3 hour time difference, but we managed. Monterey is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!! If you haven't been to Northern California you are truely missing out. We were able to visit lots of place in and around Monterey; Pebble Beach, Big Sur, Pacific Beaches, Carmel just to name a few. After our weekend visit with The Muir's we headed back to San Francisco for the rest of our vacation. We did the usual things tourist do; Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, Trolley ride, etc. I was able to scope out a few places that weren't so slammed with tourist while I was there by myself the week prior so we did get a little bit of a feel for the "REAL" San Francisco. Those happened to be probably the best and most memorable places to go. The little cafe's are SOOO YUMMY. Here are some pictures that document our time spent in San Fran. A wonderful vacation spot if you are looking to do something on the west coast.
Right down the street from our hotel!

Candwich?

YEP - Thats right, you are reading this correctly. Doesn’t this look delightful? It’s Candwich… a sandwich in a can. You pop the top and it’s ready to eat. I'm not sure how this is possible, without making the bread soggy from the jelly but I love PB&J and like it when the bread is a little soggy especially when I'm at the beach and its cold from the cooler. I would so try this!!!!!!!!
